Poor old Jim Bowen
Nov 05 2008
Poor old Jim Bowen. From being the master of Sunday afternoon TV entertainment with that classic blend of darts meets end-of-the-pier tomfoolery Bullseye, he has gone to bringing in just five per cent of the votes in the latest SmallBusiness.co.uk poll.
We asked: 'Who could give your marketing a boost?' More than 220 of you replied and, if Bowen can take any consolation, it’s that he wasn’t so far behind the prime minister – Gordo sneaked into double digits with 11 per cent.
Given the razzmatazz around the new Bond movie and the fact that we’ve moved into an altogether tougher, meaner age, it’s not such a surprise to see Daniel Craig – who plays the gun-toting charmer – at the top with 30 per cent of the votes.
Next came Katie Price (aka Jordan) with 24 per cent. Perhaps the votes stemmed from an appreciation of her recent marketing acumen when she appeared in a horse riding competition to back up her desire to appear in the next Olympics – in unison with her launching a range of horse riding clothes called “KP Equestrian”.
Alternatively, her popularity could relate to her previous life as a glamour model and the old adage that sex sells. Price was followed by ex-Hear’Say singer and now TV presenter Myleene Klass (16 per cent), and then the perennial supermodel herself Kate Moss (14 per cent).

Our latest poll picks up on the rather damp squib of a meeting between the banks and the government and the attempt to thrash out concessions and better lending terms for small businesses.
Despite the efforts of the national media – even The Sun is getting on the bandwagon – the government’s insistence that banks must assist small businesses seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
